Tanzania company search, check & credit report

Verify any registered Tanzanian company — investigated in-country and delivered in English.

Tanzania is East Africa's largest country by area and a significant market for mining, agriculture, tourism and an expanding manufacturing base. Companies are registered with the Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA), and the Tanzania Revenue Authority issues TIN numbers. Verification is reasonably accessible but the wide range between formal-sector companies and informal traders means on-the-ground confirmation adds value.

What our Tanzania company report includes

Our Tanzania reports are researched from sources including BRELA filings, the Tanzania Revenue Authority, sectoral regulators (the Mining Commission for mining, the Bank of Tanzania for banking) and court records; fees may apply for certain records. The information returned from any one source reflects what the company has filed and what is publicly accessible when the search is run. Local agents can document operating premises and management through direct enquiry.

In Tanzania, the Tanzania Minerals Audit Agency (TMAA) was dissolved in 2019 and its functions absorbed into the Mining Commission (Tume ya Madini), which is now the mining-sector regulator under the Mining Act.

Note on Tanzanian data: Tanzania's beneficial ownership register, launched in recent years, is improving but coverage remains uneven for older companies. Local content rules apply in several sectors, particularly mining, and our reports confirm the local-content status where relevant.

Why verify a Tanzanian company?

Tanzania's corporate landscape has matured significantly over the past decade, with BRELA's modernised electronic register making basic verification accessible and the Tanzania Revenue Authority gradually tightening tax compliance for the formal sector. For overseas counterparties, this means a Tanzania report can confirm a great deal from public sources, but the gap between filed records and operational reality is still substantial in some sectors.

Mining is the area where verification matters most. Tanzanian mining has been through significant regulatory change, particularly the 2017 reforms, and the local-content requirements, royalty regime, and licensing structure have all evolved. A counterparty operating in mining or mining services needs to be verified against the current Mining Commission position, not historical records. Our agents can check the current status with the relevant authority.

For ordinary commercial verification, such as manufacturing, agribusiness, trading companies and services, the practical issues are typical of the region. Active trading status, tax compliance certificate currency, premises confirmation, and director identity. None of these can be confirmed solely from a register check, but all four can be confirmed quickly through local enquiry by an established agent.

For supplier qualification, trade credit, joint ventures or any prepayment to a Tanzanian counterparty, an investigated report is the standard cost-effective tool to combine register data with on-the-ground confirmation.
