Malaysia company search, check & credit report

Verify any Malaysian company — investigated from SSM (Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia) filings and in-country sources, delivered in English.

Malaysia sits at the centre of Southeast Asian trade, with a diverse export base spanning electronics, palm oil and downstream products, petrochemicals, machinery, semiconductors and rubber. The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) maintains a comprehensive register of every entity under the Companies Act 2016, including audited accounts for private companies, making Malaysia one of the more transparent jurisdictions in the region. Most corporate filings are already in English or Bahasa Malaysia.

What our Malaysia company report includes

Our Malaysia reports are researched directly from sources including the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM / CCM) MyData portal, court records (Mahkamah Tinggi and lower courts), Bursa Malaysia and Securities Commission filings for listed entities, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department for trading activity, and direct in-country enquiry; fees may apply for certain records. The information returned from any one source reflects what the company has filed and what is publicly accessible when the search is run. Most corporate filings are in English or Bahasa Malaysia and are presented in English in the report.

Note on Malaysian data: Malaysia is one of the more transparent jurisdictions in Southeast Asia: every Sdn Bhd must file audited annual accounts with SSM, and these are publicly accessible. Be aware that registration numbers were re-formatted in 2019 (new format: YYYY######-X); both formats remain in commercial use, so reports include the new and historical numbers where applicable.

Why verify a Malaysian company?

Malaysia is one of Southeast Asia's most open trading economies, with a diversified export base spanning electronics and electrical equipment, palm oil and oleochemicals, petroleum products, semiconductors, rubber goods, machinery and pharmaceuticals. The Companies Act 2016 modernised the regulatory framework, and the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM, or CCM in English) operates a sophisticated public register through the MyData portal, including financial statements for every private limited company (Sdn Bhd), audited unless the company qualifies for audit exemption. For corporate transparency, Malaysia is one of the strongest jurisdictions in the region.

For overseas buyers and partners, this is good news: routine structural and financial verification can be completed primarily from SSM data, with on-the-ground enquiry adding context where needed. Every Sdn Bhd has a company registration number, named directors, named shareholders, declared paid-up capital, and filed audited accounts. The directors' register flags disqualified individuals and undischarged bankrupts, which are not permitted to act as directors. The charges register records secured creditor positions over the company's assets and receivables.

The areas that still warrant attention are operating reality and quality of the filed data. Sdn Bhd filings can be up to 18 months old by the time they are publicly available (the statutory window for submission after year end is generous), and a company's most recent audited accounts may not reflect current trading. Where filings are old, our agents may be able to check operating status directly. We can also check for late or non-compliant filings: SSM publishes notices for companies behind on their filing obligations, and a pattern of late submission can itself be a useful signal of administrative or financial difficulty.

Risk patterns we can identify in Malaysia reports include winding-up petitions and liquidation filings; significant changes of directors or registered office; recent paid-up capital reductions; substantial charges over receivables that affect a new creditor's security position; bumiputera-quota compliance (relevant for government-linked procurement); and SSM compliance notices. For new counterparties (particularly in fast-growing sectors like data centres, semiconductors, and electric-vehicle supply chain), an investigated report adds in-country enquiry to confirm the operating reality matches the registry record.
