What the CR number is
The Commercial Registration (CR) is issued by the Ministry of Commerce, with registration processed through the Saudi Business Center, and the CR number is the identity a Saudi business uses on contracts, invoices and government dealings. The registration record carries the legal name in Arabic (often with an English transliteration), the legal form, registered activity, capital and management.
Saudi entities also carry a unified national establishment number used across government systems; on genuine paperwork the CR number and the names attached to it should reconcile with what the counterparty has told you.
How to check a CR number
The Ministry of Commerce provides a free online query of commercial registration data: search by establishment name or number and the registration record appears, confirming existence, status and registered details. The record is primarily in Arabic, which is the main practical hurdle for foreign counterparties; transliterations of the same Arabic name can differ between documents, so match numbers rather than spellings wherever possible.
For routine vetting, confirm the CR is active and the registered activity covers what you are buying. The wider sources are on our Saudi Arabia company credit report page and in the registry directory.
What a CR check proves, and what it doesn't
An active CR confirms the entity is registered and licensed for its stated activity. Financial statements are not part of the public record, ownership detail is limited, and the language barrier is real. Before a commercial business decision, a full company report adds what the number cannot show: financial standing, payment behaviour and adverse history, investigated in-country and delivered in plain English.
Common questions
What does a Saudi CR certificate show?
The legal name, legal form, registered activity, capital, management and status of the registration, drawn from the Ministry of Commerce register.
How do I check a Saudi CR number for free?
Use the Ministry of Commerce's online commercial-registration query, searching by establishment name or number. The record is primarily in Arabic.
Why do Saudi company names differ between documents?
The registered name is Arabic, and English transliterations vary. Match the CR number and Arabic name rather than the English spelling, or have the records verified in-country.
Need more than the number can tell you?
A Saudi Arabia company credit report adds financial standing, payment behaviour and adverse history to the registry facts, investigated in-country. Delivered in plain English.
